Minnesota ASCD is a state affiliate of the International ASCD. Membership is open to all levels of educators, from the classroom teacher to professors of education, school and district administrators, and college students in education. Membership information is available by clicking this link. If you are a member of the parent organization, but not of Minnesota ASCD, we encourage you to take advantage of all of the benefits of state affiliate membership. Our mission statement is, "Leading for Learning: developing leadership among educational decision-makers to improve curriculum and instruction for Minnesota students." It focuses on our primary concern: learning and achievement for all Minnesota students. Minnesota ASCD achieves that through fostering and supporting effective leadership by professional educators at all career levels. We also provide relevant information for and interact with those who influence schooling through government, business and service agencies, and with our legislators. Using research-based principles with practical foundations, Minnesota ASCD provides services geared toward quality in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, and on establishing effective strategies in instruction and learning. Services provided to the educational community include two or more conferences per year; two Curriculum Expos for classroom teachers to examine curriculum materials and talk with publishers; regional curriculum development seminars for principals, curriculum directors and others; and the presentation of several awards which recognize exemplary individuals and teams in Minnesota and its supporters from the national educational spectrum. Members receive the newsletter Minnesota Report, with information on curriculum and instruction issues in all impacted areas and in legislation, and discounts on registration fees for conferences and Curriculum Expos, plus occasional timely news announcements and alerts through members' e-mail distribution. |
